The Story That Wasn’t

Sitting in my hotel room in Seattle, WA I received a phone call from an unfamiliar number. It turned out to be JJ Measer a peer turned friend, who I had helped a few months back by interviewing my panel of sportswriters on The Tiger Kickoff Show for a Missouri football short film he was making. JJ asked me if I wanted to co-direct the film with him. The answer was an immediate yes. My role was to write and voice while JJ was to edit the film together. We immediately began to brainstorm. I had never written for documentary style journalism and I quickly fell in love with the freedom and flow of writing for a long-form piece. Like any published work the script and VO went through many revisions until we were proud of the product. We premiered the film on May 2nd, 2025 in a packed room inside the Reynolds Journalism Institute, it was one of my favorite nights in college.
